Class 10 Board Exam Practice Papers: A Guide for Students and Parents

Practice papers are the closest thing to the real exam. Here’s how Class 10 students can use them — chapter by chapter — without burning out.

Class 10 is the first board exam most students sit, and the pressure is real. Reading notes again and again feels productive but rarely is. What actually builds confidence is practising under exam conditions — answering real questions, in time, and checking the answers honestly.

Here is a simple way for students (and parents supporting them) to use practice papers well.

Why practice papers work

  • They force recall. Answering a question from memory strengthens it far more than re-reading.
  • They reveal gaps. A wrong answer shows exactly what to revise.
  • They build exam stamina. Writing for an hour or more under time pressure is a skill.
  • They reduce anxiety. The real paper feels familiar.

Start chapter-wise, finish full-length

Don’t jump straight to full papers. Build up:

  1. During the term: a short practice paper (15–20 marks) after finishing each chapter.
  2. During revision: papers covering three or four chapters at a time.
  3. In the last two months: full-length papers that follow the structure of your board’s latest sample paper, in the full exam time.

A free generator such as ExamBee lets you make chapter-wise papers with answer keys for exactly the chapters you’re revising:

A weekly plan that works

Day Activity
Mon–Thu Study and practise one or two chapters per subject
Friday Short chapter-wise practice paper in one subject
Saturday Check with the answer key, list mistakes
Sunday Re-learn the topics behind the mistakes; rest

Rotate subjects each week so every subject gets a practice paper at least every two to three weeks.

How to check honestly

The answer key is where the learning happens:

  • Mark strictly, as an examiner would — no half-marks for “almost”.
  • Write the correct answer next to every mistake.
  • Keep a mistakes notebook by chapter. Before the exam, revise from it, not the textbook.
  • Re-attempt the same chapter a week later with a new paper to confirm the gap is closed.

For parents: how to help

  • Make practice papers routine, not a punishment — the same time each week.
  • Provide exam conditions: a quiet table, a clock, phones away.
  • Focus on the mistakes list, not the score. A falling list matters more than a single mark.
  • Watch for burnout. Rest days and sleep improve results more than extra hours.

Making practice papers with ExamBee

On ExamBee, choose the board, Class 10, the subject and the chapters, set the marks, question types and difficulty, and you get a paper with a separate answer key, built from over 1,27,000 approved questions.
